Holiday Nutrition Strategies: The One Plate Rule

Over eating is one of the biggest issues during the holiday season that can trip people up when trying to reach their health and fitness goals.

It can be super easy to go to a party have appetizers, then two plates for dinner, then dessert and graze throughout the night. This all adds up and can really side track progress. If we continue this cycle during the entire season and/or every weekend all the progress we have made can be completely reversed.

A great strategy to help keep us on track is the One Plate Rule. This is a straight forward idea but takes some planning and commitment. The idea is to limit yourself to one plate of food at the party. You can eat whatever you like but it must be limited to the one plate. This will allow you to indulge a bit while still keeping all your hard earned progress.

Ideally we are not just eating a plate full of cake, pie, and bread pudding. We would still like to see some protein and vegetables on the plate with your favorite holiday side dish (mine is stuffing/dressing).

Hope this helps keep you on track this holiday season. Remember your goals.
