Why Summer Holiday Workouts Can Be Dangerous

It is fun to do hard things for others and fine out what you are capable of. Doing workouts to honor others is a wonderful thing to do. We want to stay safe and healthy and doing it though.

When long, grindy workouts are put around holidays, parties, and the summer season bad things can happen.

Here are the biggest risks.

  1. Dehydration. This is by far the biggest issue we see. We are outside all day and drinking adult beverages. Come in the next morning drink half a glass of water then do a 45+ minute workout. This is the description of not ideal.

  2. Poor Sleep. This happens in two ways one is staying up too late and the other is alcohol affecting your sleep. If you don’t think it affects you try using a fitness tracker and compare sleeping with and without drinking.

  3. Excessive Volume. Doing more than your body is ready for is a strategy for failure. Doing too much too fast is how we get hurt. Test yourself, it is supposed to be hard. It is not supposed to cripple you. You should be able to workout the next day, if you can’t you did too much.

By avoid these three things you can stay safe during holiday workouts.

What is your favorite holiday workout?

Thank you!

Cheers,
