July Spotlight Member - Jen Logan

1.  How did you get started on your Crossfit journey?

My first introduction to CrossFit was about 10yrs ago when I signed up for a “Women’s Weight Loss Program” and had no idea that it was CrossFit. I ended up quitting after 3 weeks because I hated that they made us run and it was “hard”. My re-introduction to CrossFit was 2yrs ago when another member of Equity told me I should go with him to check out a class. I had been doing at home workouts trying to get back into shape after years of neglecting any physical activity.

2.  How many years have you been a member at Equity?

I have been a member at Equity for 2 years now.

3.  Best advice for someone thinking of joining Equity?

Go in for a no sweat intro and be open to trying something new. Everything can be modified until you are capable of the full movement or weight. It’s not scary!!

4.  What was your first impression and how has that changed?

I was intimidated at first. I did a class before my no sweat intro and it was a FULL class. I was worried I would look crazy because I didn’t know what I was doing. I was pleasantly surprised about how positive and supportive everyone was. They told me I did a great job and made me feel extremely welcome. Today I still feel the positive vibe every time I step into the gym. We all support and cheer each other on no matter what level you are at. It makes it fun and enjoyable to be there while you are pushing yourself to do hard things.

5.  How has the gym improved your life?  How will the gym improve your life in the future?

Equity has given me a place to belong when I felt like I didn’t belong anywhere. I have made some really awesome friends that encourage me every day. It has brought back my competitive spirit and given me goals to work towards after years of not focusing on my health. Today I am in better shape than I ever have been and I am more confident than ever in my own skin. It has also helped my mental health tremendously. Sticking with CrossFit is only going to continue to help me feel more confident and achieve my health and fitness goals. I look forward to my time at the gym and make it a priority now.

6.  What do you do for a living and how has Crossfit impacted that?

I am now a Store Manager for Macy’s, but previously a merchandiser. As a merchandiser, you have to move heavy fixtures, be on your feet for long periods of time, and be able to offload a truck full of heavy boxes. CrossFit helped me get in better shape to be able to do these things daily without feeling completely run down. It has given me more energy to work long hours and be on my feet. It has also helped me feel more confident, which translates into my everyday life. As a Store Manager I have to show confidence.

7.  What is your proudest moment at the gym and/or favorite moment?

Every time I hit a PR or master a new skill that I have struggled with is a proud moment. On those days, I leave the gym feeling like I am on top of the world. I am very grateful for the support I receive and encouragement to keep going.
